Process for certification by the Houston Kashruth Association
Certification process
Completing the online
initial application will begin the process for obtaining HKA
certification. The process includes the following additional steps:
The applicant is asked to provide more detailed information to
the HKA. In the case of a manufacturer, the applicant is asked to
supply a full list of its plants' ingredients and products, as
well as a detailed description of the manufacturing process.
A mashgiach (kosher supervisor) is then dispatched to the
premises for an initial inspection. The purpose of the initial
inspection is to verify all the information supplied and to assess
the viability of certifying a product or facility. The mashgiach
then submits a report or plan for implementation to the HKA.
Upon review and approval by the HKA of the mashgiach's report
or plan, a contract between the HKA and the company is developed
outlining the requirements for kosher certification.
Upon completion of the signed contract and payment of
certification fees, a mashgiach reviews compliance with the signed
agreement.
When all requirements are met for certification, the HKA
issues a letter of certification.
